MOTI High School Soccer Coaching Program
Coaching High School Soccer has some unique challenges compared to coaching in recreational/in-town/in-house or club soccer programs. It operates under a compressed time schedule, and is open to a broad group of players with differing levels of techniques and playing backgrounds (some players have played only in only recreational/in-town/in-house programs while others are maybe very advanced in their skills coming from club soccer).
The goal is to bring these young men and women together to work as a team in a competitive environment, utilizing their existing talents, while developing a common vision and set of goals playing the game in a short period of time.
Here is what the MOTI Soccer High School Program includes and some suggestions from Cookie (Brad Carlson) for their use: Skills for Players (see below), a great selection of Activities for you the Coach (see below) to use in their practices, as well as a series of Articles to support the Coach through their season.

Foot Skills for Players:
Introduce every player who wants to play soccer in your program to our MOTI Soccer app and encourage them to learn and practice these skills. This can begin in middle school and work its way up through 9th grade, Junior Varisty, and finally Varsity. This accomplishes several things. It encourages players to have the training tool to learn soccer foot skills correctly, encourages the use of a common vocabulary, and sets the expectation, that no matter what their prior background is this is what is expected for them to know when they show up for summer camp or tryouts. This can take some time for it to work its way into your system of coaching, but here is an article that will explain why you’re doing this. An idea to improve foot skill instruction in the school system at an earlier age is to visit with the physical education or classroom teachers responsible for teaching soccer foot skills and introduce them to the Teacher Curriculum available here for them.
Every player gets the MOTI Soccer app with the appropriate skills, complete with a visual display and auditory pointers and suggestions for reference. These Foot Skills are divided into 4 groups intended for different levels of your player’s abilities. Since players from middle school to varsity sign up with varying levels of foot skills, this is intended to enable players to work on developing their techniques on their own time.
